FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Who is NEXT STEPS supervision for?
NEXT STEPS provides clinical supervision for social workers pursuing advanced licensure, as well as professional consultation for LBSWs and LMSWs seeking support with clinical practice, professional development, or career growth.
What states do you provide supervision for?
NEXT STEPS currently offers supervision for social workers pursuing licensure in Maryland and Texas, including dual-state supervision for eligible supervisees pursuing both pathways.
Do you offer individual and group supervision?
Yes. Individual supervision and small-group supervision are available. Group supervision provides an opportunity for clinical discussion, case consultation, and collaborative learning with other social workers.
How often do I meet with my supervisor?
Monthly. 2-3 sessions as scheduled. Supervision is structured around your employment hours, licensure requirements, and supervision plan. Your supervision schedule will be established during onboarding and adjusted as needed based on your work hours and professional development needs.
How many supervision hours are included?
The standard full-time supervision plan includes up to 4 hours of supervision per month. Your specific supervision needs may vary based on your employment status, hours worked, licensure pathway, and state requirements.
Can I switch between individual and group supervision?
Yes. Your supervision plan can incorporate both individual and group supervision when appropriate. The mix of supervision formats will be structured to meet applicable board requirements.
Do you offer part-time supervision?
Yes. Part-time supervision is available for social workers working fewer hours or who need a supervision plan that reflects their current employment schedule.
What if I need more than my scheduled supervision hours?
Additional individual supervision can be scheduled when needed for increased clinical support, case consultation, professional development, or licensure requirements. These are charged at a tuition rate of $75/hour.
Can I receive Texas and Maryland supervision from the same supervisor?
Potentially, yes. Eligible supervisees pursuing both Texas and Maryland licensure may be able to structure one supervision relationship to support both licensure pathways. State-specific requirements and documentation will be reviewed during onboarding.
Do you supervise military spouse social workers?
Yes. NEXT STEPS is designed to support social workers navigating career transitions, relocation, and multi-state licensure, including military spouse social workers.
What happens before I begin supervision?
You’ll complete an initial consultation and provide your current license information, employment details, supervision history, and professional goals. We’ll review your applicable state requirements and determine whether NEXT STEPS is an appropriate fit before beginning supervision.
Can I start supervision if I’m not ready to pursue my LCSW yet?
Yes. Professional consultation may be available for LBSWs and LMSWs who aren’t currently pursuing advanced licensure but want support with clinical practice, professional development, or career planning.
Is supervision available virtually?
Yes. Supervision may be provided virtually using a secure video platform when permitted by the applicable licensing requirements.
Does completing supervision guarantee that I will receive my license?
No. NEXT STEPS provides supervision and documentation in accordance with applicable requirements, but licensure decisions are made by the appropriate state licensing board. Supervisees remain responsible for meeting all licensure requirements and submitting their applications and documentation.
